Send Free Money to One Giant Leap Foundation

Amazon will make up to a 10% donation of the purchase cost on things like books and electronics to the One Giant Leap Foundation  – all you have to do is link to Amazon from the Foundation’s website and shop as usual!  This works through the Amazon Affiliates Program for nonprofits.  Dr. David Livingston, the host of The Space Show, founded One Giant Leap Foundation to educate the general public, including children, on all space topics.  The foundation supports space education with a global approach towards creating a space culture and economy.

Through Amazon’s program it is so easy to send One Giant Leap free money which will further the Foundation’s progress and ability to educate society about space.

Save this link and pass it on!

Support Commercial Space, Tour New Mexico’s Spaceport America

Over a three-hour tour you’ll hear stories of New Mexico’s past and learn how the state is a great place for commercial space access.  The tour includes a visit to the vertical launch area to see the existing facilities and those in work.  A bus tour is the only public access to the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport while under construction.  When Lady Gaga performs from space in 2015 from a Spaceport America launch why not be able to say you’ve been there!

Free Space Publication

I just discovered that RocketSTEM publishes a free digital publication covering tech and science while promoting the benefits of space exploration.  The current edition features an article on Tito’s Inspiration Mars plan to slingshot two people around Mars with an aggressive 2018 launch date to take advantage of a rare window where the planets align (see page 28-29).  Turn the page to read about the Mars One approach to colonizing Mars by creating a reality TV show around sending people to the planet with a one way ticket.

Apply to be Part of History & Help Get Man to Mars

The Mars Society conducts missions executed by volunteers to gain experience and knowledge towards a manned mission to Mars.  Arctic 365 Mission applications are now being accepted to be part of a 6 person crew to perform field exploration on an island 900 miles from the North Pole.  Ideally, the selected crew will have expertise in the areas of geology, geochemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, paleontology and engineering.ImageFor 12 months the crew will operate under many of the same conditions a crew will see during a human mission to Mars.  Mission details and the application process are in a Mars Society announcement.   Applications are due November 30, 2013.

If 12 months is too much of a commitment, additional volunteer opportunities are updated regularly.

Kick-Off Space Week 2013 by Seeing “Gravity”

Gravity comes out on Oct 4th and is a great way to start Space Week 2013 – the trailer gives an idea of the action.  It’s a 3D film staring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts surviving in a damaged space shuttle after a space debris collision.  The film brings the real issue of space debris out front while also bringing a fast paced, survival drama in space, to the screen.

This year’s Space Week theme is “Exploring Mars, Discovering Earth”.  Events will be held worldwide Oct 4th-10th.  For more info see the 2013 World Space Week website.
